mix of old posts from my old blog

mainly to fill the gap whilst im writing my brand spanking new review. the new ones going to be my personal top 10 albums of all time. its going to have 3 tracks from each album. (thats 30 tracks already) an in depth review of each track and the album as a whole. a short bio of each band and the whole discography in wich i will include one track form all of their other albums so in total in one post you will get about 50 tracks for free :) but for now here comes some of my past reviews and posts.

Move over mixtapes for the Ipod generation: I miss the days when people put real time and effort into making the perfect mixtape, rather than assembling a playlist on an mp3 player. Now it's not difficult to be one of the in crowd. a quick look at some scenesters myspace will give you a list of bands taht will make you "poular"
Gone are the days when the true music lovers thrived, when they didn't all conform to a prototype, and when a Saturday morning meant rifling feverishly through the tight rows of CDs and LPs at the Rough Trade record store.
Sure, it was expensive and time-consuming to put together a collection that would have been only a fraction of your Itunes or shared folder, but there was heart in the whole process. Today, the whole music industry is somewhat lacking in heart; it has become an 'industry of cool'. Would most of the indie or emo kids you find on MySpace actually be willing to go out and search for the music they listen to in independent record stores?, suppose that would be the only way to obtain it. I very much doubt it. i think if this was the case we would have a whole generation of pop induced teenagers. that would only listen to what the radio or t.v told them to.
its oh so easy to be an alternative kid today. and there are few who are truly passionate about their music.

although i am not totally against the benefits of the internet to music it totally has made my life easier. i dont have the money anymore to afford the kind of cd collection i would like!. i can now go find an album cover i like make a small note of the band name and find them at home on my computer.
i have many thanks to a few websites for my ever growing music collection, namely:
http://www.elbo.ws/
a music blog aggregator. an amazing site on its own. if your an indie fan you will love this it will hook you up to blogs that have free mp3 downloads of hundreds of obscure bands. this is the "new" equivalent to record hunting in shops. merely type in the name of a band you like and a list of blogs will come up with that band in it. check out the other bands on the page and bingo you may have found your new fave band!
http://www.last.fm/
this website is truly amazing, one of my absolute favourites.
sign up to this and download their application.
in simple this website logs every track you listen to via a scrobbling system.
once youve listened to a few tracks say 30/40 or so this site will recomend to you bands that are similar.
it will also link you to people that have similar music tastes to you. one of the aspects i greatly adore of this site as you can look at what these people are listening to and check out the band for yourself.
the site also has some free downloads. and for every band has a 30 second clip of their top listened songs.

frenetic energy!
Im really feeling some upbeat fast paced songs today.so to introduce my first band of the day The mad capsule markets hailing from the land of the rising sun ( Japan) have already successfuly debuted in the U.K and the U.S. their music is teribbly hard to define into one particular genre, an incredibly rare thing to find these days. imagine a mix of technology based music backed up with a hard dose of pure fun. some have described the M.C.M as Digital hardcore thrash-punk pop. can you remember that ever being a genre?? me either. the M.C.M have built a phenomenal fan base in their homeland of Japan and look set on bringing their unique music to the rest of the world.with a new album coming up and tour dates in the U.K (inc Download Festival) i would seriously consider going to see this band. i believe i would buy a download ticket just to see this band.their supposed to be an absolutely phenomenal live band fuelled with energy. (who wouldnt want to see three crazy japanese guys running around a stage whilt they pump out some frantic tunes? i know i would)here are my three best tunes from the M.C.M spanning the better part of a decade, enjoy.

this song is the bonus track on their cistm konfliqt album.a few tips for listening to this track.
1.turn volume to loud
2.sit down and strap yourself in
3.prepare to have your face melted and blown away.
Mad capsule Markets - all the time in sunny beach
from the album - 020120
a very upbeat punk -esque ditty. kind of reminds me of the ramones in places. definitely a song to make you smile.
Mad capsule markets - happy ride
from the album - happy ride
this song does just what the title of the song says, taking you on a very technical happy ride. this song makes me feel like playing a racing game. im going to vote for this song to be listed as one of the greatest driving songs of all time.

now to introduce my final band sabrepulse.
sabrepulse are part of a new breed of bands pioneering a new genre of music typically branded chip - break this new music is derived predominantly from game music from systems such as nintendo and sega. their songs are fashioned on drum n bass rave style music with the nintendo sounds fused together to create interesting melodies. sabrepulse's songs are amazingly complex and this song is what i consider to be their best work. it really shows off what sabrepulse can do.
sabrepulse - new 5 in 1
if you like this band here is a list of other bands that have similar material that you should check out.

the rosewood thieves - los angeles

now to introduce an amazing sounding band

Boards Of Canada

a band who describe themselves as psychedelic/experimental/electronica but personally i only see the psychedelic side of them there not very experimental in terms of pushing the barriers down in fact i think there quite the opposite and neatly fit into the ambient box.

put simply i could see myself sitting down to a nice bit of green and tripping to boards of canada.with big sounding effects that paint landscapes in your mind, boards of canada are a truly ambient band who have made some great songs.

metric - dr blind

I have to say that when i first heard The red Jumpsuit Apparatus i was a bit sceptical to say the least. i thought they were O.K. but that was before i heard some of their really great tracks.

there tracks are done better acoustic simple. they sound prettier and it really enhances the lead singers voice without all the messy music in the background.

acoustically it allows him to really come into his own and show the true talent he posesses. though it has to be said his lyrics are shit hot.

especially in this song face down.

I found Brave Captain through http://www.elbo.ws/ possibly the best web blog aggregator!. i liked there name and thought id give them a listen. ( proof a clever band name can make you popular) any ways i ended up downloading there whole e.p and this is my favourite track from it.
